Hanover Park
Offers Leaf Disposal Information
Release Date: October 1, 2008
The Village of Hanover Park would like to remind residents that
depositing leaves on public property is prohibited. Violators face a
minimum $100 fine. Raking leaves into streets interferes with the
Village’s street-sweeping. Large quantities of leaves in the street also
increase the potential for flooding because storm sewer inlets can
easily become clogged.
Hanover Park residents have three options for leaf disposal:
Create a backyard composting area where your fall leaves can
gradually "ripen" and turn into rich mulch for next spring’s flower
and vegetable gardens.
Mulch leaves by running them over with a lawn mower. Leaves mulched
in this way can be used around shrubs.
Place leaves in a yardwaste container, attach a yardwaste sticker
and leave them at the curb for pickup by BFI. If a company other than
BFI collects your household refuse, contact them directly for
yardwaste collection information.
We encourage you to use either the first or second option. The
ever-increasing cost of disposing leaves at a landscape waste facility
is greater than disposing garbage at a landfill.
Allied Waste Services’ final yardwaste collection day is Saturday,
November 29, 2008.

Village of
Hanover Park Hosts Blood Drive
Release Date: October 1, 2008
The Village of Hanover Park will be hosting its semi-annual blood
drive on October 8, 2008 to benefit victims of car accidents, burn
victims, patients with anemia, bone marrow and stem cell transplants,
organ transplants, and many other traumas and blood-related disorders.
LifeSource Blood Centers will be at Hanover Park Village Hall, 2121
W. Lake Street on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Blood, commonly referred as the "gift of life" truly is just that.
Blood carries gases, nutrients and waste products through the body.
Blood also fights infections, heals wounds and performs many other vital
functions. We all need blood to survive. There is no substitute.
Volunteer blood donors are the only source for people who need it.
LifeSource has informed us that all blood types are urgently needed
to help return the blood supply to normal levels. Please consider giving
blood on October 8th.

Hanover Park
Reminds Residents To Protect Themselves from Home Repair Scams
Release Date: September 22, 2008
The Hanover Park Police Department would like to remind residents
affected by the recent flooding to protect themselves against home
repair con artists. These con artists take advantage of individuals
desperate to get their flood damaged property repaired.
The following items are tips to protect residents from being deceived
by these home repair con artists:
- Be wary of contractors who go door-to-door to offer their
services.
- Contact the Village of Hanover Park Community Development
Department (630) 372-4260 for more information on a contractor or what
is required when preparing to make repairs to your home.
- Contact the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to find out how
many consumer complaints have been filed against a contractor.
- Get several estimates before making a decision on home repairs.
- Use established local contractors.
- Get all of the terms of a contract in writing and obtain a copy of
the signed contract. The Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act
require contractors to furnish customers with written contracts for
any repair work costing more than $1,000. A contract must be signed by
both the customer and the contractor.
- Never make full payment until all the work has been completed to
your satisfaction.
- Con-artists have been known to impersonate government officials.
Never give personal or financial information out over the telephone.
- Contact 9-1-1 immediately if you suspect a home repair scam.

Foundation. This is the 23rd consecutive year Hanover Park has received
this national recognition.
