The Officers and Firefighters of Hanover Park Fire Department
continually strive to embody the mission and values of our organization.
Quality compassionate service provided at times of great need to our
residents and visitors is a mainstay of our department; while making
incremental steps to improve our ability to meet the ever-changing needs
of our diverse community.
Our department responded to 2,672 incidents in 2006 with 70.5% of
those being Rescue and Emergency Medical Services. Paramedics contacted
2,148 patients and provided advanced life support care to 1,050. We also
handled 30 building fires within the Village and District boundaries and
responded to 363 calls for assistance outside our community; 44 of these
being reported structural fires.
The department houses and transports MABAS Division 12 Haz Mat
Trailer 2, which responds to all communities within the division, on
interdivisional requests and as part of the MABAS state and national
response taskforce. The department also provides hazardous material
technicians and decontamination services to MABAS Division 2 and 12.
Members work jointly with the Village’s Police Department to oversee the
Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) and provide fire/arson
investigators to the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force. Fire
and life safety education as well as training in CPR, First Aid and use
of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) is provided to the general
public and area health care providers. Department instructors served as
invited speakers at the Illinois Women in the Fire Service Conference,
IFSI Fire College, IFSI Explorer/Cadet Fire College, the Illinois
Association of Firefighters Conference, the Fire Department Instructors
Conference (FDIC), and the International Association of Fire Chief’s –
Fire Rescue International.
The department maintains an aggressive training program involving
educational opportunities consisting of in-house drills, EMS Continuing
Education sponsored by the Greater Elgin Mobile Intensive Care Program,
along with training programs at or sponsored by the University of
Illinois Fire Service Institute, the National Fire Academy, and MABAS
