Trustee Sharmin Shahjahan Appointed to Serve as the Vice Chair on National League of Cities' Human Development Committee

Hanover Park, Illinois- Sharmin Shahjahan, Trustee for the Village of Hanover Park, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2021 Human Development Committee as the Vice Chair. Trustee Shahjahan was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Kathy Maness, councilmember, Lexington, South Carolina.
"I look forward to leading the Human Development Committee in advocating for expanding childcare access as a critical component of pandemic recovery, increasing federal investment for Hanover Park's workforce development, directing federal dollars to combat opioid epidemic to continue to increase the quality of life for our residents, and continue to find other ways to bring resources to our community."
As Vice Chair, Trustee Shahjahan will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration and at home.

This year’s Committee leadership team consists of Chair Elizabeth Carr-Hurst, Mayor, Fairburn, GA; Vice Chair Kacy Kostiuk, Councilmember, Tacoma Park, MD; and Vice Chair Sharmin Shahjahan, Trustee, Hanover Park, IL.
