10 Social Media Best Practices for 2021

Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 10:30 - 11:30 am

It’s no secret that the on-line "search" algorithms are constantly changing and that the best practices of 2020 aren’t the same for 2021. From understanding the difference between organic content posted by your customers to advertising you pay for, we’ll arm you with the best practices you need to know. Following this session, you’ll be able to execute a social media strategy that helps you stand out amongst competitors and succeed across social platform software.

Based in Nashville, Speaker Kindra Svendsen serves Speak Creative as their VP of Client Partnerships and is known as an expert digital and marketing storyteller with a passion for identifying and targeting a brand's core audience. Kindra helps organizations across the nation build a proactive presence whether it be through social, traditional, or out-of-the-box marketing initiatives. She is a permanent panelist for the marketing podcast, A Little Off Topic.

Our quarterly BEST series is brought to you by the Village Economic Development Committee and our development partners:  The Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Women's Business Development Center (WBDC), Schaumburg Township District Library, and the Poplar Creek Public Library.

Village Code Updates

Recent Code Amendments now allow sandwich boards; update setback requirements for LED Changeable Copy Signs; allow Simulated masonry materials for dumpster enclosures; extend outdoor dining for 2021; and make Parking an "Accessory Use," with Public Garages a "Special Use."

On May 20, 2021 the Village Board amended the Sign Code to allow continued use of Sandwich Board signs per the Sandwich Board Permit Guidelines.

Please be advised -
a letter was sent to all businesses who participated in the Village Business Assistance Program and received Village signage - after a year, many of the issued banners are worn; therefore, ALL banners must be removed no later than June 4, 2021.

The sign code amendment also expands the use of LED electronic message board (also known as changeable copy) signs for institutional uses located in residential districts and for commercial properties that can place a sign more than 25' from the ROW.  Automatic Changeable Copy (Electronic) Signs - Section 6-3 and 6-7 regarding the location of automatic changeable copy signs, was amended to allow the sign to be set back 5 ft from the right-of-way line (instead of the previously required 10') if the setback from the street curb is already 25' or more.  All other regulations still apply.

Dumpster Enclosure Materials - Section 50-31(7) regarding was amended to permit the use of simulated masonry walls, which are not only easier to install and maintain, but less costly.

A copy of this new Ordinance can be found in the Agenda Center under the May 20, 2021 Village Trustee Meeting Packet, or here.    For more information, contact Community Development at (630) 823-5780.

The Village Board has extended the Emergency Order regarding the pandemic, permitting Outdoor Dining through the end of 2021.  A permit is required.  Use of a Tent also requires a permit which, p
er the Fire Code, must be renewed every 90 days.  Consult the Outdoor Dining Guidelines and Tents Permit Guidelines for more information.

These 2-bedroom townhomes will have 2-car attached garages in addition to extra storage, office, landscaping and sidewalk connections.  Construction is expected to begin this summer. New Commercial Development at Lake & Bartels

The Village Board has approved a 3-lot subdivision at the northeast corner of Lake St. and Bartels Rd.  Building plans are under review for a Starbucks at the corner and a Shoot Point Blank retail store and gun range with training classrooms on the northern end of the property.  The southern half of the current building will be demolished, and the remaining 8,000 square foot building is to be renovated for retail and commercial uses.
