Hanover Park, IL – The Village of Hanover Park is pleased to announce the appointment of Deputy Chief Andrew Johnson to the position of Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Johnson will be sworn in by Mayor Rodney S. Craig at the May 5, 2022, Village Board Meeting at 7:00 PM, with an effective start date of May 7, 2022.
Deputy Chief Johnson began his career with the Hanover Park Police Department in July of 1999 as a patrol officer and has served as a member of the department’s Special Operations Group and as a detective, during which time he was assigned as a member of the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) homicide task force. Deputy Chief Johnson went on to hold a variety of supervisory positions in the department, including tenure as Deputy Chief of both the Operations and Support Services Divisions of the department. He is also the current Chair of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Public Relations Committee.
Deputy Chief Johnson is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College (MO). Deputy Chief Johnson has received several awards and letters of recognition throughout his career.
