Hanover Park, IL-  On April 6th, 2019 at 1:30pm there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed new MAQ Cricket Fields at 1300 Walnut Avenue, Hanover Park, Illinois which provides for three planned cricket fields and one soccer field as an addition to the existing Hanover Park Sports Complex. The Hanover Park Sports Complex is operated by the Village of Hanover Park. The groundbreaking celebrates the start of a project that will provide the community with an area where the youth of Hanover Park, along with other children of surrounding communities, can learn and play the game of cricket.  Upon completion, the fields will offer an unparalleled cricketing experience in the region.

The MAQ Cricket Fields are named after Mahammad Afzal Qureshi who is instrumental in providing not only the financial, but also the ideological, and aspirational support for the project. He has several such initiatives that he has completed in his home state of Florida as well as Georgia, Texas and New Jersey where several MAQ Sports Grounds are either planned or in existence today.

Since 2017, Mayor Rodney S. Craig of Hanover Park and Mr. Qureshi had a shared vision of expanding the presence of cricket in the region. Regarding the groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Craig stated,

I am truly excited for this project. Bringing this level of cricket to our community, continues to highlight Hanover Park as America’s Global Village.”

The new fields will also be used to host games and tournaments by the Midwest Cricket Conference which is one of the largest cricketing leagues in the region. As of last year, the Midwest Cricket Conference had more than 45 cricket teams and approximately 5000 active and retired members.

The Midwest Cricket Conference is a regional subsidy of Cricket Council USA. Cricket Council USA is a professional sports and entertainment-management organization that has been at the leading edge of the promotion, development and expansion of cricket in the United States. They are committed to providing a center stage for the growth of the sport of cricket at all levels, from schools and community parks, to the intercollegiate level and ultimately, to the professional-franchise plateau.
