Hanover Park, IL– It is with deep sadness that the Village of Hanover Park mourns the death of past Village President Louis F. Barone. Mr. Barone exhibited the highest ideals and was a true public servant to the residents of the Village of Hanover Park.

Mr. Barone served as the fourth Village President from May 1973 to April 1985.  He also served the Village as a Village Trustee and the Village Clerk.  The first Village Hall and Municipal Building built in 1961 was later named the Louis F. Barone Building in 1985. He founded the Hanover Park Food Pantry which was then housed in the Barone Building. Mr. Barone also served as a deacon at St. Ansgar Roman Catholic Church in Hanover Park from 1987 to 2002.

Mr. Barone was active as a Police Department volunteer and established the Police Department Chaplain Program serving as a Chaplain until 2002. Mr. Barone also received the 1999 Cook County Sheriff’s Senior Medal of Honor and the 2000 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award from the Human Relations Committee. In recognition of 21 years of dedicated service to the Village and Police Department, the Village named the Police Department Complex at Village Hall in honor of him in 2004.

“Lou was a friend to all he met, a genuine caring person. As Village President, he made his mark by instituting the manager form of government which professionalized the way we do business,” stated Village President Rodney S. Craig.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Avenue, Woodstock, Illinois. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to St. Mary Catholic Church Tuition Fund or St. Mary Catholic Church.

The Village of Hanover Park is honoring Mr. Barone’s service to the community by placing memorial bunting on the entrance to Village Hall and on the Village Board room dais. All the Village flags will be placed at half-staff for one week.
