Commitment to Training
The Village of Hanover Park is committed to a work environment and culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). In doing so, the village upholds all regulatory requirements applicable to the work environment including equal employment, anti-harassment, and anti-discrimination to ensure that all employees feel welcomed in the organization and supported in growth in their careers. Continual training in DEI awareness is an integral part of working for the Village.
The following examples highlight aspects of the training and awareness completed by the Village:
- All employees and volunteers appointed to a committee complete annual training on various topics of DEI practice and awareness.
- Learning & Operationalizing Racial Equity (LORE) Pilot Program -The Human Resources Department Supervisory staff participated in the 6-month LORE training sponsored by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Illinois City/County Management Association partnered with the UIC Great Cities Institute to provide support to municipalities interested in operationalizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their municipalities.
- Diversity Issues Task Force- Hanover Park Village President Rodney S. Craig co-chairs the Diversity Issues Task Force that comprises mayors, trustees, and staff from nearly 40 communities in the Chicago region. The task force provides a forum for member communities to collaborate on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion as they pertain to local government.
- DEI Working Group- The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus DEI Working Group holds roundtable discussions and workshops to develop shared definitions and understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the context of local municipal government.
