Gang Database Removal
While the Hanover Park Police Department does not maintain its own gang database, Hanover Park officers do submit names of gang members to be entered into the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) gang database operated by the Illinois State Police. If you believe you have been entered into the LEADS gang database in error or are no longer a gang member, you must contact the police department that originally entered you to request removal. If that agency is the Hanover Park Police Department, you must submit a request in writing to the department including your contact information. This request will be reviewed by a member of the department to determine eligibility for removal from the database. Justification for removal from the database includes:
- A determination by the department that the individual is no longer a gang member, or
- The person has been reported as deceased.
If the Hanover Park Police Department makes a determination that entries made by our department will be removed, other police departments who have made entries will be contacted and may choose not to remove their entries.
Individuals who have been entered into the LEADS Gang File must request in writing to be removed from the LEADS system. Voiding or canceling gang membership shall be done in accordance with established LEADS procedure. Justification for gang membership removal includes a determination that the individual is no longer a gang member or that the person has been reported as deceased.
Mediations or requests by an individual to be removed from the LEADS gang database system shall only be done after review of the facts. The Hanover Park Police Department can only delete the original LEADS gang database entry made by this department.
To submit a request in writing, send it to:
