CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTIONS
The Hanover Park Fire Department provides free child safety seat inspections to Hanover Park residents. If you have a child seat installed in your vehicle that you would like inspected for safety by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, please fill out the form below to request an appointment.
The technician will walk you through proper installation and assist if needed. The goal of the child safety seat inspection is to ensure care takers are confident in installing their own safety seat(s).
Prior to requesting an inspection, the seat/vehicle owner should check the seat for its expiration date; only unexpired seats will be installed. Owners should bring all manufacturer's documents and instructions for the car seat and the vehicle owner's manual with them to the appointment. Approximately one hour should be allotted for each child safety seat inspection.
If you are an expectant parent, please request your inspection appointment at least one month prior to your due date. This will ensure that your seat is properly installed before you bring your baby home and will avoid making last minute appointments. Please make sure your child seat is already installed in your vehicle prior to requesting an appointment.

CHILD PASSENGER PROTECTION ACT
The fire department has technicians on staff who have completed the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Child Safety Passenger Safety Certification Training Program and are certified to install child safety seats under the Child Passenger Protection Act (65ILCS25/1). All certifications have been achieved through Safe Kids Worldwide. View a complete copy of the Child Passenger Safety Requirements (ilsos.gov).
The Act states, in part:
Effective January 1, 2012, all passengers, regardless of age or location in the vehicle, will be required to be secured in a seat belt or an appropriately approved child restraint system. Any person transporting a child under the age of 8 years shall be responsible for securing that child in an appropriate child restraint system, more commonly called a child safety seat. The parent or legal guardian of the child under the age of 8 years shall provide a child restraint system to any person who transports his or her child. A child weighing more than 40 pounds may be transported in the back seat of a motor vehicle while wearing only a lap belt if the back seat of the motor vehicle is not equipped with a combination lap and shoulder belt.
